2024 DYA Oratorical Contest

2024 DYA Oratorical Contest

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Youth Affairs (DYA) is thrilled to announce the open registrations for the annual Oratorical Contest. Scheduled to unfold on April 2, 2024, and April 3, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Guam Congress Building, this contest will serve as a platform for the youth to showcase their oratory skills and articulate their thoughts on this year’s Youth Month theme - "Breaking Boundaries, Building Bridges: The Power of Diversity."
The contest is divided into two (2) categories: Middle School and High School, providing an opportunity for students at different levels to participate and share their perspectives. Contestants are required to deliver a speech within the 3–5-minute time limit.
Registration forms have been distributed to school administrators, and interested students are encouraged to coordinate with their school administration to submit their completed forms to DYA by 5:00 p.m. on March 19, 2024. Each school is permitted to register one primary and one alternate, except for schools with combined "all through" grade levels.
The Oratorical Contest, a cornerstone of DYA's Youth Month celebrations since the 1990s, serves as a platform for empowering the youth through expressive communication. The winners of the contest will serve as the Youth Governor and Youth Lieutenant Governor for Island Leadership Day.
Participants will have the unique opportunity to partner with leaders from various sectors within the Government of Guam, including the Guam Legislature, Judiciary, and the Mayors Council. This collaboration aims to provide a hands-on experience and foster mentorship between the youth and established leaders in the community.
DYA encourages all eligible students to seize this opportunity, express their thoughts on the theme, and contribute to the celebration of diversity and youth empowerment. Competitions from previous years are available on DYA’s website: https://dya.guam.gov/annoucements/.
