GMH Surgeons Performing Advanced Laparoscopic Procedures

PRESS RELEASE

Dr. Christian Eusebio and Dr. Alexandra Leon Guerrero are performing minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures at Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA). Laparoscopic surgery uses small incisions in the abdomen where surgeons can insert a laparoscope, a small tube with a camera and light source, to guide them. The benefits laparoscopic surgery provides to patients include shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, less pain and bleeding following surgery, and reduced scarring.

GMHA Receives PSQH Innovation Awards Honorable Mention

PRESS RELEASE

Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) received an Honorable Mention from the 4th annual Patient Safety & Quality Healthcare (PSQH) Innovation Awards. The hospital was recognized for developing its Telemedicine program during the COVID-19 pandemic to address staffing shortages caused by the increasing number of patients requiring admission, particularly in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Telemedicine made it possible to connect patients with off-island doctors to provide medical consultation, coverage, and support thereby relieving the load on local physicians and reducing burnout.

GMHA Launches NICU Telemedicine Service

PRESS RELEASE

Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) launched telemedicine services in its Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The introduction of telemedicine in the NICU is to allow healthcare providers to more effectively and readily communicate with parents and staff at any time, thereby enhancing and fortifying the excellent level of care newborns receive in GMHA’s NICU.

The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) Radiology department has been accredited by the American College of Radiology’s (ACR) Committee on Computed Tomography (CT) Accreditation. GMHA was awarded accreditation for the hospital’s CT unit meeting the established criteria for clinical image quality and phantom image quality.

Premature Infant Released After Nine Months in the NICU

PRESS RELEASE

On Friday, February 10, 2023, little Markes Shirai was released from the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) after 275 days. The infant was born premature and weighed a mere 740 grams or 1.6 lbs. Throughout his stay, Baby Markes has been a little warrior who fought to survive every day.

GMHA Perioperative Nurses Recognized with 2023 CNOR® Strong Award

PRESS RELEASE

Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA)’s Surgery department was recognized for its high number of certified perioperative nurses. GMHA received the 2023 CNOR® Strong award from the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI), which acknowledged the hospital as a “facility that advances a culture of patient safety.” The CCI is a non-profit organization that focuses on perioperative professional certifications for operating room and recovery room nurses.
