321st COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; COVID-19 Test Results: 276 New Cases, 39 Hospitalized; UOG Vaccination Clinic Extended to March 2, Moves to GCC Starting March 4
321st COVID-19-related Fatality Reported
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 321st COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on February 8, 2022. The patient was a 33-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on February 8.
“While we have made so much progress in this pandemic, with each loss we are reminded that our fight with this virus continues,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “To his family and loved ones, we grieve with you and extend our prayers and sympathies during this difficult time.”
39 Hospitalized for COVID-19
SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 20 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 174 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 9 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.
COVID-19 Test Results: 276 New Cases of COVID-19
Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 276 new cases of COVID-19 from 779 specimens analyzed on February 23, 2022. 39 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 43,836 officially reported cases, 321 deaths, 3,463 cases in active isolation, and 40,052 not in active isolation.
UOG Vaccination Clinic Extended Until March 2, Moves to GCC Starting March 4
The COVID-19 vaccination clinic held at the University of Guam (UOG) Field House will remain operational through March 2. The COVID-19 vaccination clinic will then transition to the Guam Community College (GCC) Multipurpose Auditorium in Mangilao on March 4 and continue on March 5, 7, and 8, 10, 11, and 12. While walk-ins are accepted, residents are urged to make appointments at tinyurl.com/vaxguam. Dates and times are listed below:
Mangilao mAb Treatment Center Reopens
The monoclonal antibody therapy (mAb) Treatment Center located at the Mangilao Senior Citizens Center in Mangilao has reopened for COVID-19 therapeutic services. The hours of operation are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m Monday through Saturday. Patients must receive a referral from a physician in order to qualify for treatment at the Mangilao mAb Treatment Center.
Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of February 23, 2022, a total of 134,715 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,204 residents 12 – 17 years old. 7,358 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 5,324 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. An additional 143 residents have received their booster shots and a total of 54,682 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.
