Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported; COVID-19 Test Results: 123 New Cases, 33 Hospitalized; Tiyan COVID-19 Testing Schedule Changes Effective Monday, March 14; ​

Two COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported 
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of two (2) COVID-19-related fatalities:

  • The 336th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on March 9, 2022. The patient was a 74-year-old male, unvaccinated, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on February 17.
  • The 337th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at GRMC on March 9, 2022. The patient was a 75-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on March 4.
 
“Our hearts and prayers go out to their families and loved ones. May they find peace and healing,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “While our community looks forward to brighter days ahead, we must continue the protective measures that have helped us progress through this pandemic. Mask up, get vaccinated, and get boosted.” 

COVID-19 Test Results: 123 New Cases of COVID-19 
Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 123 new cases of COVID-19 from 780 specimens analyzed on March 8, 2022. 16 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 46,123 officially reported cases, 337 deaths, 1,604 cases in active isolation, and 44,182 not in active isolation.

SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 16 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 191 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 12 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

Tiyan COVID-19 Testing Schedule Changes Effective Monday, March 14
Due to a decrease in demand, beginning Monday, March 14, 2022, COVID-19 testing at the Old Carnival Grounds in Tiyan, Barrigada will return to four days a week. The new hours of operations will be Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
 
​​SNAP Supplemental Emergency Allotment for March 2022
DPHSS would like to announce that the SNAP Supplemental Emergency Allotment for March 2022 will be released on March 18, 2022. The benefits will be electronically loaded into the SNAP recipients’ EBT cards. Should you have any questions or need additional information, please contact the numbers below.

Mangilao mAb Treatment Center 
Monoclonal antibody therapy (mAb) treatment is available at the mAb Treatment Center at the Mangilao Senior Citizens Center. Therapeutic services are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday through Saturday. Patients must receive a referral from a physician to qualify for treatment at this center. To schedule an appointment, call (671) 998-4627. Individuals are encouraged to schedule within 10 days of when symptoms started for best results.
 
Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of March 9, 2022, a total of 135,321 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,524 residents 12 – 17 years old. 7,587 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 5,699 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. An additional 47residents received their booster shots and a total of 55,793 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.
