One COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; COVID-19-Related Fatalities Adjusted
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 340th COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City on March 19, 2022. The patient was an 85-year-old female, fully vaccinated without a booster, with underlying health conditions and tested positive on March 19.
After a review of all possible COVID-19-related deaths, two previously counted COVID-19-related deaths have been removed, bringing Guam’s current COVID-19-related death count to 340.
“Every life is precious and valuable, and we’re saddened to report another loved one lost to this deadly virus,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “To her family and friends,
Jeff, Josh and I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences.”
Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 85 New Cases Reported March 19 – 21
From March 19–21, 2022, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 85 new cases of COVID-19. One of the cases reported today is through the Department of Defense. The 85 new cases does not include cases previously reported in JIC Release No. 995 and 996. The breakdown of the cumulative results is below:
**Special note: The Joint Information Center misreported the test results data on JIC Release No. 996, writing seven positives when it should have read one. The correction to the total has been made and adjusted in this release.
To date, there have been a total of 46,809 officially reported cases, 340 deaths, 1,213 cases in active isolation, and 45,256 not in active isolation.
16 Hospitalized for COVID-19
SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 7 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 119 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 17 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.
