350th COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 350th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital on April 1, 2022. The patient was a 57-year-old male, fully vaccinated without a booster, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on April 1.
“Too many have experienced the pain from losing a family member to this deadly virus,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “To his family and those who loved him, Jeff, Josh, and I pray they find healing and comfort during this difficult time.”
Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 49 New Cases Reported April 2 – 4
From April 2 – 4, 2022, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 49 new cases of COVID-19. 21 of the cases reported today is through the Department of Defense. The 49 new cases does not include cases previously reported in JIC Release No. 1009 and 1010. The breakdown of the cumulative results is below:
To date, there have been a total of 47,386 officially reported cases, 350 deaths, 347 cases in active isolation, and 46,689 not in active isolation.
12 Hospitalized for COVID-19
SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 6 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 71 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 12 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.
