COVID-19-related Fatalities Adjusted
The JIC was notified that one (1) COVID-19 positive patient whose death was previously reported as COVID-19-related was subsequently found not to be the result of COVID-19. The DPHSS Office of Epidemiology and Research has reviewed and adjusted the COVID-19-related fatality count to 353.
Correction to JIC Release No. 1008
On Friday, April 1, 2022, the JIC reported one COVID-19-related fatality as vaccinated without a booster. The JIC was later informed the patient received a booster shot. The correction follows: The 349th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at St. Dominic’s on March 22, 2022. The patient was a 96-year-old female, fully vaccinated with a booster, who had underlying health conditions and tested positive on February 24 and again on March 13.
COVID-19 Test Results: 28 New Cases Reported
Today, DPHSS reported 28 new cases of COVID-19 from 751 specimens analyzed on May 3, 2022. 14 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 48,282 officially reported cases, 353 deaths, 238 cases in active isolation, and 47,691 not in active isolation.
Four Hospitalized for COVID-19
SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 2 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 19 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 10 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.
Second COVID-19 Booster Doses Available
Second doses of the COVID-19 booster are available to individuals ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. Eligible individuals may choose to receive a second booster dose using an mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months after the first booster dose.
Additionally, adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who are not moderately or severely immunocompromised and who received Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine as both their primary series dose and booster dose may receive a second booster dose using an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months after the Janssen booster dose. Adults ages 50 years and older could benefit from a second mRNA booster dose as they are at increased risk for severe COVID-19. Adults 50 years and older may choose to receive a second booster dose, if it has been at least 4 months after the first booster dose.
Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of May 3, 2022, a total of 136,425 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,961 residents 12 – 17 years old. 7,951 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 6,339 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. A total of 58,540eligible residents have received their first booster shots. A total of 3,397 eligible residents have received their second booster shots.
