Three COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported; COVID-19 Test Results: 27 New Cases, Three Hospitalized; SRCHC Vaccination Clinic Closed Saturday; Second COVID-19 Booster Doses Available
Three COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of three COVID-19-related fatalities:
“Jeff, Josh and I pray for lasting peace and comfort for all those who are grieving their loved ones during this pandemic,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “While our eyes are filled with anticipation and turn towards recovery, pandemic remnants remain through infection and lost lives and should prompt our community to continue practicing mitigation efforts for the safety and wellbeing of our most vulnerable.”
COVID-19 Test Results: 27 New Cases Reported
Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 27 new cases of COVID-19 from 908specimens analyzed May 12, 2022. 14 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 48,496 officially reported cases, 361 deaths, 233 cases in active isolation, and 47,902 not in active isolation.
Three Hospitalized for COVID-19
Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 1 vaccinated person hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 20 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 20 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.
Second COVID-19 Booster Doses Available
Second doses of the COVID-19 booster are available to individuals ages 12 years and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. Eligible individuals may choose to receive a second booster dose using an mRNA (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna) COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months after the first booster dose.
Additionally, adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who are not moderately or severely immunocompromised and who received Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine as both their primary series dose and booster dose may receive a second booster dose using an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months after the Janssen booster dose. Adults ages 50 years and older could benefit from a second mRNA booster dose as they are at increased risk for severe COVID-19. Adults 50 years and older may choose to receive a second booster dose, if it has been at least 4 months after the first booster dose.
SRCHC Vaccination Clinic Closed Saturday
The Southern Region Community Health Center (SRCHC) vaccination and clinic in Inalåhan will be closed this Saturday, May 14, 2022. Please see the schedule below.
Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of May 12, 2022, 136,526 eligible residents (5 years and older) are fully vaccinated. This total includes 13,986residents 12 – 17 years old. 7,989 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 6,383 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. 58,988 eligible residents have received their first booster shots. 4,127 eligible residents have received their second booster shots.

Three COVID-19-related Fatalities Reported
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified of three COVID-19-related fatalities:
- The 359th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on April 1, 2022. The patient was a 70-year-old male, fully vaccinated with one booster, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on March 31.
- The 360th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at GRMC on April 28, 2022. The patient was a 91-year-old male, fully vaccinated with one booster, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on April 26.
- The 361st COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital on May 12, 2022. The patient was a 57-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on May 12.
