363rd COVID-19-related Fatality Reported
Today, the Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 363rd COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Regional Medical City on May 7, 2022. The patient was a 58-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions, who tested positive on May 7.
“Jeff, Josh, and I offer our sincerest condolences to his family,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Today’s news of another member of our community lost is a harsh reminder that COVID-19 remains ever present. Those who suffer from cold or flu-like symptoms, especially individuals with underlying health conditions, are reminded not to wait until it’s too late. Check in with your doctor and get tested if you have symptoms.”
COVID-19 Test Results: 61 New Cases Reported
Today, DPHSS reported 61 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,466 specimens analyzed May 26, 2022. 35 of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 48,968 officially reported cases, 363 deaths, 300 cases in active isolation, and 48,305 not in active isolation.
Six Hospitalized for COVID-19
SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 4 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 20 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 5 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.
