COVID-19 Test Results: 83 New Cases Reported
Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 83 new cases of COVID-19 from 793 specimens collected August 10, 2022. Seven (7) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 56,450 officially reported cases, 385 deaths, 1,433 cases in active isolation, and 54,632 not in active isolation.
21 Hospitalized for COVID-19
SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 9 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 54 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 6 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

To his family and friends, Jeff, Josh, and I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences, and the island of Guam grieves with you,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “We are learning to live with this virus, and our greatest defense continues to be the vaccine. We call on our community to stay up to date with their vaccinations for the maximum protection from severe illness and hospitalization.”
