FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2022 Guam Youth Summit to Begin October 18
The Close Up Foundation will be hosting the Annual Guam Youth Summit at the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa beginning Tuesday, October 18, 2022. The goal of the summit is to help students understand the role of the legislative branch in addressing community concerns and to inspire young citizens to engage in and shape public policy.
This year’s summit will bring together approximately 70 high school students from the Guam Department of Education (GDOE). The summit will allow students to engage in activities where students will learn about the legislative process, including the role of legislative committees, the process of selecting chairpersons, and the importance of conducting research on policy issues affecting the community.
The culmination of the summit will be to make recommendations to the 36th Guam Legislature on current or future public policies. Senators and local area experts have been invited to participate in panel discussions during this year’s event.
An Off-Island Close Up education specialist will be facilitating the summit. The event is funded by the Close Up Foundation under a grant from the U.S. Office of Insular Affairs.
The Guam Youth Summit will take place from October 18, 2022, to October 21, 2022, at the Hilton Guam Resort and Spa from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
