142nd COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 142nd COVID-19-related fatality was pronounced dead on arrival at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH) at approximately 10:48 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2021. The patient was a 75-year-old male, unvaccinated, with underlying health conditions. He tested positive on July 13, 2021.
“We are once again confronted with the harsh reality of the virus we are up against. When we look at the data, the people who are most affected are those who are not vaccinated. If we cannot get vaccinated for ourselves, let us do it for the ones we love most,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “To his family and friends, Jeff, Josh, and I offer our deepest condolences and sympathies and pray for healing in these difficult times.”
GBHWC Crisis Hotline
The Guam Behavioral Health and Wellness Center (GBHWC) has a Crisis Hotline available 24/7 at (671) 647-8833/4. For those feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed, or need to talk to someone, GBHWC has experienced providers available and ready to assist the community with any heightened stress and anxiety experienced as a result of COVID-19.
Results: Thirteen New Cases of COVID-19
Thirteen (13) new cases of COVID-19 were identified out of 539 tests performed on July 12. Four (4) cases were identified through contact tracing. To date, there have been a total of 8,467 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 142 deaths, 113 cases in active isolation, and 8,212 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 1.4.
Operation Liberate Guam update: To date, a total of 92,611 or 77.15% of adults have received either both doses in the two-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna) or the single-dose series (Johnson & Johnson/Janssen) of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Four GDOE Students Test Positive for COVID-19
On July 12, the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) confirmed four cases of COVID-19, one student each at Juan M. Guerrero Elementary School and Merizo Martyrs Memorial Elementary School and two students attending Tiyan High School. GDOE, in collaboration with the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS), has identified and notified all close contacts, all of whom will remain in quarantine until cleared by DPHSS. Areas of each campus have been cleaned and disinfected. Regular hours of operation will resume on Wednesday, July 14.
COVID-19 Vaccination Schedule -
COVID-19 vaccination clinics continue at the locations and times below. Bring a photo ID. Those due for their second dose are reminded to bring their COVID-19 immunization card. To view the complete schedule of COVID-19 vaccination clinics, visit dphss.guam.gov/vaccinategu.
Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and provide government-issued identification to validate age. Minor’s birth certificate is acceptable. Parent/legal guardian must have a government-issued ID. Guardians must also present legal guardianship or power-of-attorney document.
Free COVID-19 Testing Schedule
COVID-19 community testing continues. No symptoms are needed to qualify for testing. Bring a photo ID. Results available onsite. Testing for travel purposes will not be conducted at these community testing sites. Call the DPHSS Northern Region Community Health Center at 635-7525/6 to schedule an appointment for COVID-19 testing for travel. Priority is given to patients under investigation and those traveling for medical purposes. Only four (4) people per vehicle are allowed to be tested.
Food Commodities Distribution Continues
The Guam Department of Education, State Agency for the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) under the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Nutrition Service distribution will be available to village constituents only on a first-come, first-served basis. A limit of three households per vehicle will be serviced at distributions. Face masks must be worn. Bring a photo ID. Village Mayors distribution schedule is as follows:
