“By nearly doubling our bus fleet, we make a significant stride toward strengthening the transportation services that ensure the livelihoods of working people, the health of transit-reliant patients, and the growth of Guam’s economy,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “As we enter a new era of opportunity, our administration will continue to support our island’s evolving transportation needs to fuel long-term prosperity and improve the quality of life for all.”
“Last October, we launched a bus driver training program through the Guam Department of Labor as part of wide-scale industry investments and, with a GRTA fleet twice as large as then, we see job opportunities and public services growing hand-in-hand,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “Eventually, as we make more improvements, we will offer a truly reliable mass transit system that can help mitigate the cost of gas and reduce environmental impacts. The Governor and I thank the transportation workers who are creating this reality every day along their routes.”
“GRTA continues to execute its mission to ensure reliable, accessible, and cost-efficient transportation services to the general public and people with disabilities on Guam,” said GRTA Interim Executive Manager Richard Ybanez. “These new buses bring us so much closer to our goals of modernization. We thank the Governor and Lieutenant Governor for their constant support and the GRTA staff who always work diligently to serve the people of Guam.”
GRTA will be utilizing federal funding to build a new park-and-ride hub and bus facility in Dededo, as well as purchase an additional six buses and five 10-passenger, ADA-compliant buses through the Accelerated Innovated Mobility (AIMS) Program. Guam residents can look forward to an increased frequency of transit services and reliable, clean, and low-emission buses. GRTA offers services every Monday to Saturday from 4:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The agency serves approximately 8,000 fixed route riders and 5,000 paratransit riders monthly.
