Statement on the Passing of DepCor Director Robert Camacho

Hagåtña, Guam - Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio issue the

following statement on the passing of Department of Corrections Director Robert Camacho:

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear friend Robert Camacho. Bob devoted nearly four decades to protecting our island community in various capacities starting his career at the Department of Corrections as a Parole Officer. He then served as Acting Director of the Guam Customs & Quarantine Agency, Deputy Chief of the Guam Police Department, and Chief of Police of the A.B. Won Pat International Airport before returning home as the Acting Director of DOC in 2019. His tireless efforts to protect our people was evidenced most recently in his advocacy for successful programs to reduce recidivism and improve public safety by recruiting and retaining more officers,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “He was a promoter for justice with a peaceful, quiet demeanor who was a friend to all. Jeff and I send our deepest condolences to Pauline and their family, and we extend our thoughts and prayers in their time of grief and loss.”

“Bob was an extraordinary man who served our island and our nation as a company commander in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1982-1991. His exemplary service earned him numerous accolades, including the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star recipient for Operation Desert Storm, Army Service Ribbon, Saudi Arabia Service Ribbon, and other noble awards,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio. “Off duty, he used his photography talents to co-launch ‘Humans of Guam,’ a photography series that cataloged dozens of our island’s familiar faces and shared their stories in an effort to bring more compassion, hope, and understanding for all. He will be sorely missed in every corner of our island.”
