Governor Leon Guerrero Advocates for $30M COFA Reinstatement

Governor Leon Guerrero Advocates for $30M COFA Reinstatement

PRESS RELEASE

Hagåtña, Guam - The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration issue the following statement regarding COFA:

Last week, Governor Leon Guerrero engaged Ambassador Joseph Yun, who negotiated the COFAs for the State Department, regarding the status of the $30 million appropriation. Ambassador Yun shared with Governor Leon Guerrero that he will be raising the issue with Secretary Deb Haaland.

Yesterday, a letter was sent to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary Haaland to solidify the Governor's request in writing to add the appropriation to either department's  budget. We have also taken on the task of tackling impact methodology concerns that have prevented full reimbursement for costs expended. Once our report is finalized and submitted to the Department of Interior and/or the Department of State, we expect to receive full reimbursement.
