“In our discussion, I stressed the need for an immediate solution to the high rate of application denials for projects both inside and outside the fence and underscored the direct impact to Guam’s economic growth, especially at this pivotal time of rebuilding and recovery. The continued lack of skilled construction labor to complete these projects will result in increased construction, housing, and real estate costs,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “After meeting with Acting Under Secretary Burriesci and her team, I have been assured that they will be tracking this issue and that it is not the intent of the Biden Administration to keep people out of our great nation. I look forward to the open line of communication that I have established with Under Secretary Burriesci and DHS’ favorable consideration of my concerns to further share with the people of Guam.”
Additionally, Acting Under Secretary Burriesci expressed her sincere appreciation to Governor Leon Guerrero for her proactive support and willingness to assist in the ongoing effort to evacuate thousands of Afghan refugees. While it has been speculated that Guam may be considered a potential site for relocation, no decisions have been made.
