Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration Provides $1.9M to Village Mayors. Mayors Given $100,000 Each for Typhoon Related Recovery

Hagåtña, Guam - To expedite recovery efforts within the villages, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio presented checks to village mayors on Wednesday morning. In total, $1.9 million was provided and each mayor presented a $100,000 check, as provided by P.L. 37-17, which was passed by the Guam Legislature.

“Today marks two weeks since Typhoon Mawar’s landfall, and while we’ve made incredible progress towards recovery, we have heard and answered our mayors’ calls for greater financial assistance,” said Governor Leon Geurrero. “Each village has its unique challenges and our mayors know best how to invest and deploy resources to best support the restoration of our villages.”

“Together, alongside our GovGuam agencies and our federal partners, we are bringing aid directly to our people,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio. “We are feeding the hungry through food commodities distribution, deploying FEMA Disaster Survivor Assistant teams for those who have experienced loss or damage to their homes, and staging and securing green waste disposal sites islandwide,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio. “We will continue this progress and have strengthened our partnerships with local leadership and on the federal level to expedite recovery.”

Funds must be used in response to Typhoon Mawar, including but not limited to safety and security; food, water, and sheltering; health and medical; energy; communications; transportation; and hazardous materials.
