“Our administration continues to look for meaningful ways to support our island’s recovery following Typhoon Mawar, and today, we are proud to announce hundreds of available jobs through the National Dislocated Worker Program,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “This is a great opportunity to restore not only wages but also a means of onboarding an influx of staff for our GovGuam agencies charged with leading the island’s clean up and beautification efforts.”
“We are yet again maximizing the federal support available to restore our community in this time of recovery,” said Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio. “Now that funding has been secured for this program, we encourage interested applicants to contact their Mayors’ Offices to begin the application process.”
The priority for eligibility will be given to:
1) Individuals temporarily or permanently laid off as a consequence of the disaster declaration (Typhoon Mawar)
2) Dislocated Worker/Displaced Homemaker
Dislocated Worker is an individual who has been terminated or laid off or has received a notice of termination or layoff from employment.
Displaced homemaker is an individual who has worked in the home for a number of years and suddenly finds that they are the primary source of household income.
3) Long-term Unemployed
Unemployed at the time of eligibility determination; and
Has been unemployed for 12 or more non-consecutive weeks over the last 26 weeks; and
Has made an effort to find a job; or
Is an incarcerated individual within 6 months of release
OR
Is underemployed at the time of eligibility determination; and
Has been unemployed for 12 or more non-consecutive weeks of the last 26 weeks; and
Has made an effort to find a job with self-sustaining wages/hours.
The Office of Grants Management (OGM) typically awards NDWGs in thirds, however, due to the severity of the storm, of the $10.2 million, the OGM issued an initial increment of close to 50% or $4.5 million. More funding will be disbursed as the need arises.
