GovGuam Awarded $2.9M in DOI TAP Funding

PRESS RELEASE

Hagåtña, Guam - The Government of Guam was awarded $2.9 million in Techincal Assistance Program (TAP) funding from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) on July 10, 2023. The award will fund the following initiatives:

  • $500,000 to the Office of Technology for the Cybersecurity Resilience project, as detailed in the proposal submitted on March 17, 2023

  • $280,000 to the Department of Agriculture for the Pacific Region Ocean Aquaculture Alliance - Stage 1: Guam Aquaculture Quarantine & Testing Facility project, as detailed in the proposal submitted on March 24, 2023

  • $126,275 to the Bureau of Statistics and Plans for the Video Surveillance System to Enhance Monitoring of Exterior Perimeters at the Guam Department of Corrections project, as detailed in the proposal submitted on March 16, 2023

  • $76,000 to the Office of Public Accountability (OPA) for the OPA Training program, as detailed in the proposal submitted on March 14, 2023


Additionally, Fiscal Year 2023 TAP Funding was awarded to semi-autonomous agencies, educational institutions, and non-profits for the benefit of Guam as follows:


  • $481,544 to Guam Community College for the Truck Drivers Move the Economy project

  • $296,500 to the Guam Waterworks Authority for Operations and Maintenance Training

  • $289,648 to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for an assessment of current and projected sediment loading and streamflow in the Ugum River 

  • $250,000 to Mañe'lu for the Fanhåle’ At-Risk Youth Project

  • $199,929 to the University of Guam for maintenance and upgrade of the Water Environmental Research Institute of the Western Pacific Water Quality Laboratory.


“These funds will be invested in meaningful ways to uplift our island and our people,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Not only do we continue to build upon our resilience against devastating typhoon winds and rains, but we must also work towards hardening the infrastructure that supports our day-to-day lives online.” 


“Beyond security initiatives, these funds will go towards a variety of training opportunities promoting more jobs and increased accountability,” said Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio. “Additionally, these funds will be used to support our at-risk youth.”
