Search Through All NoticesHagåtña, Guam - The Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (GSYEP) invites the island’s youth and members of the community to participate in two events. A tree planting day is scheduled for Saturday, July 29 at the Mannell Watershed Site in Merizo, and a Day of Service cleanup is scheduled for Wednesday, August 2 along the island’s roadways and parks, including Paseo Park, East and West Hagåtña, and Nimitz Beach. Both events start at 8 a.m.
“Every year we are seeing an overwhelming demand for this summer employment program, and we are proud of our island’s youth for using their summer months to gain valuable work experience,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Over 1,800 of our teens are working in over 120 government organizations, and this event will unite them for a day of service and provide them an opportunity to come together for a common goal to keep Guam clean.”
“Our youth will inherit our island and surroundings, and we want to impress upon them the importance of taking action–no matter how small,” said Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio. “We invite our community to support these initiatives, which over the course of our administration, have evolved into the signature events hosted by our Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program interns.”
The Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program is a five-week program for teens ages 14 to 17. This year, interns are focused on island and agency recovery. Last year’s cleanup collected over three tons of trash.
Participants are asked to wear shoes and a hat and bring water to stay hydrated. For more information on cleanup efforts, call 671-473-1157.
