“Our Administration has always been very committed to supporting Fair Labor Standards, protecting wage earners, and ensuring fairness. We do this through collaborative efforts between local and federal partnership, and I’m proud to say that Guam’s exemplary partnership with USDOL’s Wage and Hour Division has resulted in increased compliance among employers,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “Our commitment to ensuring equity and compliance has also served to better attract investors to our island, which contributes overall to our improving economy.”
“This MOU reinforces the agreement we signed four years ago and what we have been doing on enforcement, training, and sharing of resources,” said Acting Director Toves. “Guam DOL has been diligent in its efforts to enforce not just local labor laws, but, where applicable, federal labor laws and this takes a collaborative effort with the federal Wage and Hour Division.”
The MOU will maximize the enforcement of the laws administered by the two agencies. The partnership will create more effective communication and cooperation to accomplish mutual goals, including cross-training staff and providing employers and employees with compliance assistance to protect the wages, safety, and health of the workforce.
