Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) to Launch Tuesday, September 5

PRESS RELEASE

Hagåtña, Guam – The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration, through the Guam Department of Labor (GDOL), is set to launch the Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) program on Tuesday, September 5, 2023. Guam residents should prepare to file online at hireguam.com when the official announcement is made through the news media. Administered by the U.S. Department of  Labor (USDOL) and funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), DUA payments are designed to provide temporary partial income replacement so that an individual unemployed as a result of a declared disaster may recoup lost wages.

“While recovery is visible all around us–evidenced by most residents returning to work, businesses resuming operations, and tourism arrivals making a steady comeback–we cannot diminish the fact that so many continue to feel the hardships resulting from Typhoon Mawar,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “We are excited to launch Disaster Unemployment Assistance to support our residents who continue to feel financial burdens and to provide temporary relief to them and their families.”

“The resilience and determination demonstrated by our people during these challenging times has been truly inspiring,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “It is our hope that with the support of our federal partners and now with the addition of Disaster Unemployment Assistance, we can rebuild stronger than before. If you lost hours and wages as a result of Typhoon Mawar, we encourage you to apply for DUA starting September 5.”

DUA benefits will be retroactive to the week beginning Sunday, May 28, 2023, and can be paid up to the week ending November 25, 2023, if the individual remains eligible for DUA. The computed weekly assistance amount for the territory of Guam is $384 as determined by USDOL.

Individuals who are registered on hireguam.com should take steps to ensure their accounts are active. If you are unable to log on or reset your password, email webadmin@dol.guam.gov for assistance. If you think you will be applying for DUA benefits as a direct result of Typhoon Mawar and do not have an account, register today at hireguam.com.
