Hagåtña, Guam - The Office of the Governor, in partnership with the Guam Office of Veterans Affairs (GOVA), will host the 3rd Annual Wreaths Across America this Saturday, December 16, 2023. The annual event will be held at the Guam Veterans Cemetery in Piti at 9 a.m. The public is invited to attend the ceremony in person or watch the livestream on the Governor’s Facebook at facebook.com/govlouguam or the PBS Guam YouTube Channel at youtube.com/@pbsguam.
“The Wreaths Across America program has become a signature event under our administration that allows our families to honor and remember the sacrifices of our military veterans by placing wreaths on their graves during the holiday season. We are calling upon the people of Guam to help fulfill Wreaths America’s mission to remember the fallen, honor those who have served, and teach our children the value of freedom,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero.
“The annual Wreaths Across America is a tradition started at Arlington National Cemetery and has spread nationwide, even reaching Guam. By celebrating and participating in this tradition, our residents can actively contribute to preserving and continuing a meaningful and respectful way to honor our island’s veterans,” said Lt. Governor Joshua Tenorio. “While there will never be enough words to express our gratitude to those who have dutifully served to defend our island and our nation, this program is a beautiful and tangible tribute to give thanks, all while fostering unity and patriotism.”
Families with loved ones buried at Guam Veterans Cemetery are highly encouraged to participate. Although wreaths are typically only available through pre-sale, a surplus of wreaths were made available for Guam and will be provided at no charge with a limit of one wreath per grave.
