(TAMUNING, GUAM) Local small businesses and entrepreneurs are now able to apply to participate in the Guam State Trade Expansion Program (Guam STEP). Implemented by the Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA) beginning in 2021, Guam STEP assists eligible small businesses enter and succeed in the international marketplace.
“Supporting and strengthening Guam’s small businesses is a priority of my administration, “ said Governor Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero. “Guam STEP provides a stepping stone for entrepreneurs to expand their reach into the global marketplace and take their businesses to another level.”
Funded in part by a grant with the U.S. Small Business Administration, Guam STEP provides eligible small businesses with comprehensive export training, financial assistance for new to export and/or market expansion activities, and access to international markets. Participating businesses that meet certain requirements under the program will qualify for direct funding as incentives to implement export strategies such as website development and translation, international marketing design, and access to e-commerce platforms.
“The success and growth of our local small businesses are integral to the economic well-being of our island community as they contribute significantly to the expansion of our economy,” said Melanie Mendiola, CEO and Administrator of GEDA. “I encourage our small businesses to take advantage of the export trainings, business development support, and access to international market opportunities that GEDA is providing through Guam STEP.”
The deadline to apply is at 5:00 PM on January 16, 2024.
