FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 30, 2021
GIAA Awarded “Most Efficient Airport in Asia in Small Airport Category” by Air Transport Research Society
The A.B. Won Pat International Airport’s reputation in the region for excellence was recognized for the fourth consecutive year as being selected as achieving the “2021 Top Asia Airport Efficiency Excellence, In the under 10 million passengers per year category,” by the Air Transport Research Society (ATRS), as a result of its 2021 Global Airport Performance Benchmarking Report.
The ATRS Global Airport Benchmarking measures and compares the performance of several aspects of airport operations: productivity and efficiency, unit costs and cost competitiveness, financial results and airport charges. The 2021 report included 205 airports and 24 airport groups of various sizes and ownership forms in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America. The ATRS Annual Global Airport Performance Benchmarking project was initiated in 2000 at the University of British Columbia. The project is now hosted at the College of Business at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida. The ATRS Research team is guided by a 16-member task force of leading academics from Asia Pacific, Europe and North America.
“Despite the pandemic and its impact on how we operate, our facility and operational performance is the top performer regionally for small airports in productivity and efficiency categories that were considered in this benchmarking report. Guam should be extremely proud of its Airport and being acknowledged as one of the best, not only in the region, but on a global scale for four consecutive years,” stated John “JQ” Quinata, Executive Manager of the GIAA.
The Guam International Airport was virtually presented the award as part of the 24th ATRS World Conference held on August 27, 2021. In his acceptance of the award, Executive Manager John “JQ” M. Quinata stated, “We are extremely honored to receive this award, and this accomplishment is shared with not only our Airport staff, but to our signatory airline partners, and aviation support businesses who have worked hard and efficiently performed by these global standards.”
Attached is the Certificate of Award, presented virtually to the GIAA from the ATRS. The virtual acceptance of this award is on the GIAA YouTube channel (https://youtu.be/KnCmYRxFHOw).
