By focusing on reducing energy use, lowering emissions, and promoting energy efficiency in our government buildings and facilities, we are taking significant steps toward a greener tomorrow,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “With these additional resources, we are better equipped to transform our island into a more sustainable one that does its part to reduce our carbon footprint and better serve our people using renewable energy sources.”
“Our plans to install solar technology, including solar panels and solar LED lights, across selected government agencies, and converting current lighting systems to solar LED in parks and community-accessible locations identified by the Mayor’s Council of Guam (MCOG), demonstrate our dedication to practical, impactful solutions for a cleaner, more sustainable Guam,” added Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “With the recent $62 million grant for Solar for All, these initiatives are part of our broader commitment to transforming our island into a beacon of sustainability, reducing our carbon footprint, and enhancing the well-being of our community through renewable energy sources.”
“The community can be assured that all solar PV projects that have been listed as a priority are centered around facilities that house programs and services for our youth, our manåmko’, and our homeless population. Additionally, solar LED lighting project locations are prioritized in areas that are frequented by the community for daily exercise routines, such as the Paseo Loop in Hagåtña, the Dededo Sports Complex walking path, and various parks within the villages,” added Guam Energy Office (GEO) Executive Director Rebecca Respicio. “GEO is partnering with the Guam Power Authority to conduct energy assessments at all project locations and to ensure that all installations provide the highest efficiency outputs as we work towards Guam’s path to 100% renewables by 2045.”
