Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration Brings Cyber Protection Team to Guam

PRESS RELEASE

Hagåtña, Guam - The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration’s cybersecurity initiative continues with an Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) event led by the U.S. Air Force Reserve's 51st Network Operations Squadron and hosted by the Guam Office of Technology (OTECH). Over 20 cybersecurity professionals from across the Department of Defense, Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense, and the Community Defense Liaison Office (CDLO) are working to enhance the cyber defense capacity for the Island of Guam.

The IRT mission provides best practices and implementation of asset management and network infrastructure capacity, policies for system access control, change management, incident response aligned with the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and more. Additionally, the IRT identifies ongoing training support from local and federal agencies, including train-the-trainer opportunities.

“This partnership to enhance Guam’s cyber security capabilities is key to ensuring the protection of our critical information technology infrastructure and speaks to the ongoing collaboration between our agencies and the Department of Defense. The timing of this initiative also comes at the heels of the Micronesia Islands Forum, where all of our regional leaders expressed deep concerns regarding cyber threats and regional security,” said Acting Governor Joshua Tenorio. “We are grateful for the support in enhancing our cybersecurity posture here on Guam, especially for our Government of Guam line agencies. These efforts build our cybersecurity awareness and resilience and support our overall mission to serve our people by safeguarding their personal information and ensuring the continuity of government.”
