FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (October 01, 2025 – HÅGATÑA, Guam) Senator Will A. Parkinson will convene a Community Town Hall on Guam’s Political Status in Malesso’ on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Malesso’ Senior Citizens Center. This gathering is the third in a series of islandwide forums following sessions in Yigo (north) and Mongmong-Toto-Maite (central Guam)—part of Parkinson’s commitment to hear from all corners of the island on Guam’s future.
"The geopolitical environment in the Western Pacific is shifting rapidly, and Guam sits at the intersection of defense, diplomacy, and democracy. The recent Guam Defense Forum, hosted in mid-September, brought together military leaders, federal and local policymakers, academics, and community representatives to assess Guam’s role in U.S. deterrence strategy and regional security," said Senator Parkinson. "The intensifying strategic pressure from major powers, especially China’s growing presence in the Indo-Pacific heightens the importance of charting a clear, sustainable political path for the island. In that context, this town hall is part of Guam’s broader response to security, governance, and self-determination challenges."
These forums are grounded in Sen. Parkinson’s Legislative Resolution No. 29-38 (COR), which expresses I Liheslaturan Guåhan’s support for a full examination of statehood or enhanced autonomous status for Guam, on terms defined by the people. The resolution emphasizes that any change in status must safeguard Guam’s constitutional rights, political equality, economic welfare, and cultural heritage. Parkinson’s outreach across the island is intended to operationalize that vision, to ensure that any status decision is anchored in public will, not partisan or external dictates.
“This issue is not about Democrats or Republicans, it’s about educating our people and ensuring every resident of Guam understands what’s at stake for our island’s future," said Senator Parkinson.
