The construction of the 30,000-square-foot facility is funded by $6.4 million, including $3.5 million in federal grants from the Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment Defense Community Infrastructure Pilot Program, with support from the Guam State Clearinghouse and Guam Military Buildup Office. The balance is funded by savings set aside by the Chalan Pago-Ordot Mayor’s Office and the Guam Economic Development Authority.
“The recovery and rebuilding of our island is at the forefront of our minds, but it is small, yet significant milestones such as the creation of a new recreational center, sports complex, and emergency shelter that truly signals growth for our people,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “We know that this project has been a labor of love for Mayor Gogue and his team, and so we are happy to join them in laying the groundwork for what will be a special place for family gatherings and community celebrations.”
“When we support the revitalization of our villages through community-based projects such as this, everyone from our manåmko’ to our manhoben benefits,” said Lt. Governor Tenorio. “We commend the Chalan Pago-Ordot Municipal Planning Council and their partners who worked for years to make this a reality for their village. Once construction is complete, we look forward to celebrating this new community space with everyone who has made it possible.”
