Hagåtña, Guam - Governor Lou Leon Guerrero announced today that a $778,700 federal grant has been secured from the Community Oriented Policing Services program of the U.S. Department of Justice to hire more police officers. The Guam Police Department (GPD) is one of more than 100 police departments across the country that received grants under this program.
“Public safety has remained a top priority of my administration. With funding to hire more police officers, we can expect more village patrols and a heightened sense of security for our island,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “We recently acquired more patrol vehicles that will supplement our efforts to increase the capacity and capability of our public safety personnel, and we will continue maximizing federal funding to expand safeguards for our community.”
“In addition to this grant, we are directing more federal resources to support GPD with their hiring efforts and upgrade their outdated systems,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “These are all great signs that support our push for a new police cycle and a revitalized police force that will fulfill the demand of securing our streets and protecting our people.”
