High School Students Encouraged to Apply for Transportation Institute
Hawaii-based Program Engages Youth through STEM, Transportation Careers

Hagåtña, Guam - The Office of the Governor and the Department of Public Works (DPW) announces the opportunity for four high school students to participate in the Pacific Summer Transportation Education Program (PAC-STEP) National Summer Transportation Institute (NSTI) hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa from June 18 to 30, 2023, in Oahu. The camp will introduce students to transportation careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through related activities, field trips, and recreational events. Travel and housing accommodation costs are covered.

“Transportation is such a seamless part of our everyday lives that we don’t always recognize the workers whose dedication ensures our mobility and accessibility,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “If you’re interested in a career that provides an essential function across diverse industries and an essential framework for prosperity, I encourage you to apply.”

“This is an exciting opportunity for our young people to get a firsthand look at STEM jobs in action through the critical work of transportation,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “We thank our partners at the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, and the University of Hawaii for extending this program to Guam’s deserving students.”

“Besides having a memorable experience, each student gains educational experience that can help them further their higher education choices,” said DPW Director Vince Arriola.

NSTI is funded by the Federal Highways Administration. For more information and to apply online, visit eng.hawaii.edu/pacstep. Applications are due at 5 p.m. on April 14, 2023.
