Road Safety Improvements Begin Along Marine Corps Drive

Hagåtña, Guam — The Department of Public Works (DPW) has commenced critical road safety improvements along Route 1, Marine Corps Drive, from Route 27 northbound toward Andersen Air Force Base last week. The project, awarded to Hawaiian Rock Products (HRP) through a Task Order amendment in the amount of $2,028,018.05, will focus on replacing pavement striping and markers along this key 6-mile corridor. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when traveling through work zones and to follow all traffic control measures in place. Construction is expected to be completed by March 2027.

“This project reflects our continued commitment to safer roads for our community,” said Governor Lou Leon Guerrero. “Investing in roadway visibility and safety improvements, especially along heavily traveled corridors like Marine Corps Drive, is essential to protecting our residents and visitors.”

Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio added, “These improvements are part of a broader, strategic effort to strengthen Guam’s infrastructure. Clear striping and proper roadway markings may seem simple, but they play a critical role in preventing accidents and saving lives.”

This work is part of DPW’s ongoing Islandwide Safety Improvements initiative. Recent efforts under this program include roadway striping from Route 8 to Shell in Hagåtña completed in September, pavement markings in east Hagåtña in July 2025, and the installation of rumble stripes along Dead Man’s Curve in April 2025.

“Maintaining safe, visible roadways is a top priority for DPW,” said DPW Director Vincent Arriola. “Our teams, alongside our contractors, continue to work diligently to improve driving conditions across the island through both targeted projects and ongoing maintenance.”

In the aftermath of Typhoon Sinlaku, DPW continues to prioritize roadway repairs and maintenance to address storm-related impacts and ensure the continued safety of the driving public.

For updates and traffic advisories, the public is encouraged to follow DPW announcements.
