Response to Misrepresentations About Number of Privileged OB-GYN Doctors at GMHA

PRESS RELEASE

To maintain transparency and accuracy, the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) is addressing misrepresentations made in the media regarding its Labor & Delivery unit and the number of OB/GYNs (a doctor of obstetrics and gynecology) and midwives with privileges at the hospital. There are currently 15 providers with privileges who deliver babies. This includes 11 full- and part-time OB/GYNs, three midwives, and one family practice doctor with credentials and experience delivering babies.

GMHA Responds to Concerns Over Number of OB/GYN Doctors

PRESS RELEASE

Since the unfortunate passing of Dr. Jeffrey Gabel, GMHA has received numerous inquiries about the number of OB/GYN doctors available and the hospital’s ability to deliver babies. Dr. Gabel’s loss is deeply felt, but GMHA assures the community that its Labor and Delivery unit remains well-covered. “Dr. Gabel will be greatly missed, but GMHA is confident in our ability to continue helping mothers bring their babies into the world,” said Hospital Administrator Lillian Perez-Posadas.

GMHA Official Statement on the Passing of Dr. Jeffrey Gabel

PRESS RELEASE

The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Jeffrey Gabel. He was a treasured member of the hospital’s Maternal Child Health department and beloved by his patients. His passing is heartbreaking. Dr. Jeffrey Gabel has been with GMHA for many years up until January 2023 when he relocated to the US mainland. Dr. Gabel’s love for Guam and her people was never more evident than when he returned to GMHA a few months ago. His dedication to our people, especially our expectant mothers and their babies, was genuine. GMHA is saddened to have lost such a caring and skilled physician and we are devastated to have lost our friend.

GMHA Recommends Review of Five-Year GMHA Strategic Plan

PRESS RELEASE

The Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) recently received a copy of Senator Frank Blas’ letter to the Governor and press release describing his suggestion to create a task force to assist GMHA with reaching its goals. GMHA is grateful for the senator’s interest and commitment to assisting Guam’s only public hospital in its mission to provide our people with excellent healthcare. However, before steps are taken to create a task force, GMHA would ask the senator’s office and our community to review the strategic plan that was developed for GMHA in 2022.

GMHA Shares Update on its MCH Units

PRESS RELEASE

There has been a lot of discussion recently concerning the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) and its Maternal and Child Health (MCH) units. As part of GMHA’s commitment to transparency, we would like to share our progress in improving the MCH experience for our patients, their families, and our staff. We will focus on the status of Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) in the MCH and recruiting efforts to secure additional OBGYNs, neonatologists, and pediatricians.
