Hagåtña, Guam – Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio, and the Guam Museum Foundation invite the island community to celebrate the holiday season by visiting the Electric Winter Wonderland in downtown Hagåtña. Skinner Plaza will be decorated with Christmas lights, pixelating trees, holiday arches, and blizzards of snow for the community to enjoy from December 2, 2021 to January 8, 2022. Organizers will continue adding to the exciting light display leading up to Christmas Day. Special light shows will be featured in 30-minute intervals every Thursday to Sunday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. COVID-19 social gathering limits will be enforced and mask-wearing is required. “This year has brought many challenges for our island and people, so it has been a goal of our administration to work hard at beating this virus in time for our community to enjoy real relief and see a safe return to some holiday traditions this festive season. Certainly, this is an early Christmas gift for Guam and for that, we give thanks,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “We are encouraged by our downward trend of cases and hospitalizations, which gives us hope that cheerful community events such as this will remind everyone of what is possible when we work together for the good of all,” said Lt. Hagåtña, Guam - Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio joined the village of Chalan Pago-Ordot in breaking ground today on a new Multi-Purpose Recreation and Emergency Center. The new facility will overlay the village’s 30-year-old outdoor basketball and tennis court adjacent to the Jose U. Atoigue Memorial Baseball Park and will be managed by the Chalan Pago-Ordot Mayor’s Office. The construction of the 30,000-square-foot facility is funded by $6.4 million, including $3.5 million in federal grants from the Department of Defense’s Office of Economic Adjustment Defense Community Infrastructure Pilot Program, with support from the Guam State Clearinghouse and Guam Military Buildup Office. The balance is funded by savings set aside by the Chalan Pago-Ordot Mayor’s Office and the Guam Economic Development Authority. “The recovery and rebuilding of our island is at the forefront of our minds, but it is small, yet significant milestones such as the creation of a new recreational center, sports complex, and emergency shelter that truly signals growth for our people,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “We know that this project has been a labor of love for Mayor Gogue and his team, and so we are happy to join them in laying the groundwork for what will be a special place for family gatherings and community celebrations.” “When we support the revitalization of our villages through community-based projects such as this, everyone from our manåmko’ to our manhoben benefits,” said Lt. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero announced today that a $778,700 federal grant has been secured from the Community Oriented Policing Services program of the U.S. Department of Justice to hire more police officers. The Guam Police Department (GPD) is one of more than 100 police departments across the country that received grants under this program.

The Leon Guerrero-Tenorio Administration’s Adahi I FamaGU’on Child Care Program Stabilization 2021 (CAPS2021) is quickly coming to fruition with the endorsement of the program’s grant manual, eligibility terms and other conditions by the Guam Economic Development Authority (GEDA) Board of Directors during their Thursday meeting. This signals child care centers and providers to begin preparing their applications for submission. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio encourage residents who experienced income loss or other factors affecting housing stability due to COVID-19 to apply for the Guam Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program. The ERA Program began accepting applications today, November 22, 2021, after conducting a short pause to process the large volume of earlier submissions.

New York City, New York - On October 6, 2021, Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio and Commission on Decolonization Executive Director Melvin Won Pat-Borja delivered in-person testimony on behalf of Governor Lourdes Leon Guerrero and the people of Guam during the regular session of the United Nations (UN) Special Political and Decolonization (Fourth) Committee, which fulfills the UN’s commitment to peacekeeping and decolonization. During his testimony, Lt. Governor Tenorio highlighted policy inequities relative to the military buildup and housing located on and off military bases in Guam stating, “The local skilled labor force on Guam cannot meet the demands of the economic expansion resulting from domestic, commercial, and military activities. Yet the administering Power will only authorize foreign labor to support military projects, resulting in a nearly two-fold increase in the cost of construction and the people of Guam being priced out of home ownership and shutout from a residential rental market dominated by military housing rentals and rental subsidies for only a certain segment of the population.” Lt. Governor Tenorio and Executive Director Won Pat-Borja urged the Committee to continue seeking authorization from the United States for a UN visiting mission. Lt. Governor Tenorio urged the UN “to assess the progress of our sustainable development efforts consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the impact that our decolonization has on our ability to fully implement these policies.” Executive Director Won Pat-Borja stated, “The United States has not fulfilled its international and moral obligation, and for that reason we have consistently advocated for a UN visiting mission to Guam. The U.S. Department of the Interior has awarded Guam $2,196,251 in Fiscal Year 2021 grant funding through the Office of Insular Affairs’ Energizing Insular Communities (EIC) program. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero has received and approved the Department of Corrections’ (DOC) Comprehensive Facilities Master Plan, a monumental step towards the structural transformation of Guam’s sole public prison system. The master plan was federally funded and supported by the Office of Insular Affairs of the Department of the Interior.

Hagåtña, Guam - On Thursday, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero addressed her Physicians Advisory Group (PAG) and announced Dr. Nathaniel Berg as the new Chair. Dr. Berg is a Board Certified Radiologist with three decades of experience. He is the Medical Director and CEO for Guam Radiology Consultants and serves as Chairman of the Guam Board of Medical Examiners. Governor Lou Leon Guerrero stated, “Throughout this pandemic, the Physicians Advisory Group has provided valuable medical advice to me and my COVID-19 team. I appreciate each member’s work and dedication to our community. In my consideration for Chair, I have asked Dr. Berg to take up the mantle. He is a respected medical professional and an active contributor to the group’s important work.
